Fine Linen Glossary
Egyptian Cotton: Because of its fine lustrous long staple cotton, Egyptian Cotton can be spun into finer texture thread and woven into a softer, more lustrous fabric.
Gusset: Refers to how deep a top mattress measures. Eastern Accents Fine Linen fitted sheet has a generous 17” gusset.
Hemstitch: To hem along a line from which threads have been drawn out, gathering the cross threads into a series of little groups. Used to create a decorative open weave pattern.
Jacquard: Its name comes from the Jacquard loom, which produces elaborate weaves such as tapestries, brocades, and damask fabrics. A jacquard woven sheet drapes nicely and has a warm silky finish.
Percale: Sheet percale is a fine, smooth, lustrous, and closely woven fabric made from combed cotton yarn. It produces very high grade and fine quality sheeting.
Piece dyed: Fabric that is woven before it goes through the dying process.
Pilling: Groups of short or broken fibers on the surface of a fabric. When tangled together they look like tiny balls and detract from the appearance of the article on which they appear.
Satin: A smooth fabric with a lustrous surface constructed of mercerized cotton. Mercerized is a finishing process that increases the strength of cotton and affinity to dyes.
Shrinkage: The contraction of a fiber, yarn or fabric after washing and drying. All products made of natural fibers have a tendency to shrink 4%-6%.
Thread Count: The number of yarns per square inch in a woven fabric. The higher the count is, the finer the fabric. But don’t judge only by the thread count; the quality fiber and finishing process is as important when creating luxurious sheets. Eastern Accents Fine Linen uses only the best quality Egyptian Cotton with 600 thread count and mercerized finish.
Yarn dyed: Fabric made from yarn that has been dyed before weaving it. Yarn dyed fabrics often use multiple colored yarns creating a more detailed pattern.
